You usually don’t need a permit for an open house on your own property with a limited number of visitors. However, if you expect a large number of visitors (100+), plan outdoor activities, will have music, or will be serving alcohol, an event permit may be required. Check with your local municipality, preferably 8–12 weeks in advance.
