Most dignitaries stay at an event for 60 to 90 minutes. This is not a sign of disinterest, but a result of their busy schedules. Structure your program so that your core message is conveyed within this timeframe. Do not schedule a highlight after the expected departure time. Also account for a 15- to 30-minute delay upon arrival. This buffer is standard and should be factored into the planning. Communicate this internally as well so your team isn’t unnecessarily stressed.
