Is it allowed to use facial recognition at an event in the Netherlands?

The use of facial recognition at events is legally complex in the Netherlands. The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) classifies biometric data as special categories of personal data. Processing this data is only permitted with the explicit consent of the data subject and a comprehensive privacy policy. For regular business events, the use of facial recognition for access control is in most cases not worth the effort due to the legal complexity. Always consult a privacy lawyer before deploying this technology.
