Can my customer claim a VAT refund under the travel agency scheme?

No. That is one of the most important practical implications of the travel agency regulation. On invoices to which the regulation applies, the VAT is not listed separately. Therefore, the customer cannot claim the VAT on the travel component as input tax.

For business clients who normally claim back all VAT, this represents a net additional expense. Always discuss this proactively when providing the quote—not after the fact when sending the invoice.
